SAFE5112 Fire Extinguishing Systems

FK5112 is a fire extinguishing agent used in Fire Extinguishing Systems.

It is produced for use in fire protection in hazards where water is not proper to use.

It is widely accepted and respected around the world, as a clean agent respirable extinguishant.

SAFE5112 fire extinguishing systems offer exceptionally fast fire protection, reaching extinguishing levels in ten seconds or less. When the systems are installed according to the design standards they extinguish without any damage. No harm on human health observed while systems discharge.

The ability to extinguish a fire this quickly equates to:

Less or almost no damage in the protected hazard

Lower repair costs during and after fire

Extra margin of safety for living beings

Less downtime and disruption of business

SAFE5112 systems extinguish fire successfully where the room integrity can be provided. Systems discharge within 10 seconds and provide an extinguishing concentration. The room integrity provided hazard should keep the extinguishing concentration indoors for 10 minutes.

Usage Areas of FK5112 Fire Extinguishing Systems

Below, some of the most frequent usage ares are listed:

Data Centers,
 IT and Server Rooms,
 UPS Rooms,
 Electrical Cabinet Rooms,
Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage Electric Rooms,
 Jenerator and Transformator Infrastructure Rooms,
 Combustible chemicals, devices, Equipment Storages,
 Paper and File Archives,
 Libraries,
 Art Gallery Archives and Storages,
 Museum Archives and Storages

Designing a fire extinguishing system by using FK5112 fire extinguishing agent, enables the solutions to:

● Extinguishes a fire in seconds, before it even starts and long before water-based systems discharge.

● Helps to protect irreplaceable paper documents and electronics. Because FK5112 fire extinguishing agent is a waterless fire suppression solution, it leaves no residue and is electrically non-conductive.

● Provides the highest margin of safety for human occupancy of any clean agent solution under the EN standards, as well as NFPA 2001 standard.

● Is not subjected to the HFC phasedown under the F-Gas regulation in Europe or under the Montreal Protocol.

● Is stored as in liquid phase yet filled, pressurized and discharges in gas phase.

● Is appropriate in use of Class A, B and C fire hazards.

What Equipment Do SAFE5112 Fire Suppression Systems Consist of?

FK5112 fire extinguishing agent is used in fire extinguishing systems. Fire extinguishing systems consist of system cylinders, system valves, valve accessories (manual, electric and pneumatic actuators), fire extinguishing agent, discharge pipes with fittings, discharge nozzles and hydraulic calculation software. In order to start the fire extinguishing system automatically with a fire scenario, installations contain conventional fire detection systems with cross zone detection scenario.

What Does System Approval Refer to?

System approval commits that the fire extinguishing system extinguishes fire if it is installed within the stated design criteria and limitations of the manufacturer.

Requirements for system approval:

● Testing and certification of a third party test institution for all the components included in the system according to related manufacturing standards individually.

● Instruction manuel of the approved system where design standards, system.limitations, equipment list and Equipment combinationsof the system are defined.

● System approval certificate, prepared after extinguishing tests by the third party test institution according to the instruction manuel

Design Criterias About SAFE5112 Fire Extinguishing Systems

FK5112 Fire extinguishing systems are defined as Clean Agent in ISO 14520-5 / EN 15004-2 design standards. The statement “Clean Agent” means, under defined design parameters, the fire extinguishing agent provided to the protected hazard is not harmful on human health and living creatures. The design concentrations to extinguish fire, defined in ISO 14520-5 / EN 15004-2 and two levels of concentrations defined as NOAEL and LOAEL are indicated on the below table. There is an incredible high margin between the design concentrations and NOAEL & LOAEL to extinguish fire with FK5112 fire extinguishing agent.

About FK5112 Fire Extinguishing Agent

FK5112 is a clean agent fire extinguishant which was developed as a halon replacement and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) alternative. It belongs to a family of chemicals called halocarbons, a group which includes HFCs and fluoroketones. FK5112 fire extinguishing agent is a fluoroketone, instead of the other chemical clean agents like HFCs (HFC-227ea, HFC-125).

FK5112 has a global warming potential (GWP) of less than one while the HFCs have a GWP of more than 3000. FK5112 has the highest margin of safety for human occupancy among clean agents, including inert gas.

With CF3CF2C(O)CF(CF3)2 molecular formula, under 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5 – Nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone chemical name and FK5112 ASHRAE designation this fire extinguishing agent is used in thousands of applications globally.

The agent extinguishes fire by a chemical reaction with a rapid discharge and evaporates 50 times faster than water with a rapid cooling effect.

FK5112 fire extinguishing agent itself is UL and FM approved, regardless of the fire extinguishing system approval.

Distinguishing marks of FK5112 fire extinguishing agent from Halon and other HFC extinguishing agents are:

Ozon depletion potential (ODP) is zero.

Global warming potential (GWP) is very low, almost neglectable.

Atmospheric lifetime is 5 days.
